Going Way Back

I am pretty sure most everybody knows about the WayBack machine on Archive.org but I felt like making sure. A question came up on the MMUG mailing list today that made me think of this site. Although no longer indexing sites, the way back machine took snap shots of web sites for the purpose of acrhiving them. For my purposes it lets me look back and see how my tastes and talents have evolved by looking back at sites I worked on when I was first startind web development.

But just for giggles I thought I would share this link to my site on this day in 2001. Have fun! I was coaching my nephews soccer team, and we had just gotten our first dog. Its amazing how time goes by so quickly.

Ps. Check out these other famous sites as well Sean Corfield and Ben Forta

XBox 360 for the Bargain Price of $3350?

I read a while back that Microsoft was planning to limit the units it was sending to stores to create demand for the XBox 360. I am not a microsoft fan, but I try to be fair, so I assumed this was a un-true. However I decided to test this theory this morning and I called a bunch of the local stores here in portland. The consensus? Most stores reveiced 5-10 units. 5-10! I saw on the news that there were dozens of stores with 100’s of people lined up out front. I am a bit amazed.

So I guess the pro-order folks are the lucky ones. Except it seems many of them are not getting theirs either.

But one way or another the demand is there. On ebay this morning I watched 3 360’s sell for $3350, $3050 and $3500. I thought for sure it was a joke but they keep going up there. And its lots of bidders, not just a couple driving up the price. I have to say I am amazed.

I know this happens everytime a new console comes out, but I can barely understand someone paying over $3000 for a console. I just cant put those thoughts together? Would you pay that?

Sun comes to the Silicon Forest

I am back from San Francisco (more on that later) and I am getting all caught up on the news. In my JDJ newsletter I saw this article about Sun opening up a location in Hillsborro. Portland is often called the Silcon Forest beccause of the high concentration of Tech companies here.

Installing Subversion on Mac

I have covered this before on my blog, but I thought it a good idea to post the instructions that apple recommends. The instructions are inteded to get Subversion running on your mac with Xcode, but only the last step has anything to do with Xcode. Otherwise use these to connect with any of your favorite SVN clients (subclipse is mine!).

Controlling Multiple Computers - No KVM

I have been lucky enough in my job to be mostly supported in my choice to use a mac. Unfortunately there is one app that I just cant manage on my mac. We use ACT 2005 for our CRM, and as painfully slow as act is on a regular windows box, I just cant manage to stomache it in VPC. Its also nice to be able to test stuff in IE everyonce in a while (even if I dont care if its broken - serves you right :P ). So I have a pc in my office that sits off to the side of G5 and my powerbook that very seldom gets used. However this week I found a tool that has made that computer more useful. Synergy is an Open Source application that lets you use one keyboard and mouse to control multiple computers. So you say “I have had that forever, I just use my kvm” Well this program allows you to share control just like having multiple monitors on the computer. After a short bit of setup, running my mouse to the edge of my screen on my g5 the mouse jumps over to the monitor attached to the pc. When the mouse switches screens so does the keyboard focus. The best part is that it also allows you to copy text from one computer to another. So while working on my mac I can copy a url and paste it into IE on the pc. Its so totally cool. So I wanted to share it with the world. I wish I had known sooner.

Ok blog updated…

Not only do I finally have a post on my site ( october was an amazingly busy month) but I have also updated to use the beta blog software for version 4 of ray’s blogCFC application.

Previously I had been using a mildly modified version of his application. But I decided since I dont have time to keep my version in sync with all the wonderful updates Ray keeps writing, I decided to just go with the goods ;)

So I guess this post is just one more in a long list of Thank You’s to Ray Camden for all his hard work.
