The Amazing No-Button Mouse
Its a constant struggle at my house. I think macs are great
and my wife thinks they are not. One of her arguments is always
that its just not practicle to only have one mouse button. So
excited as i was to show her apples new Mighty Mouse I thought I would finally have won that battle.
But do you know what she told me? "It has NO mouse buttons. How
is that better" I had to laugh. I really thought I was
going to have nailed down one of her arguments against my Macs but
instead I just fueled her fire. I guess thats what i get for
trying

You can also just plug in any USB mouse for windows into your mac and it will work just fine, along with the scroll wheel.
$50.00 seems a bit steep for a wired 2 ‘button’ mouse with a scroll wheel.
I spent about $60.00 for my wireless mouse: 2 buttons, scroll wheel with middle-click, horizontal scroll) and it has controls for a media player (open player, play, pause, Next track, previous track and volume controls).
I wonder why they don’t make it ergonomic… I like how the MS and logitech mice fit in my hand.
Doesn’t it have 2 buttons on the side? Check out one of the side pics on the Apple website.
Hey! No fair attacking me here!
I was totally kidding you anyway. I think the mouse sounds pretty cool. Although I still don’t understand the whole "squeezing" thing.
So I’m totally torn between the Mac and PC worlds. I love the mac set-up, hate the accident Microsoft calls Windows, and I am still trying to figure out the many facets of Linux.
And yet here I sit, typing on a Windows PC. You see most macs are too spendy for me, and the ones that are in my price range (should read "one" in my price range, *cough* mac mini *cough*) isn’t modable at all.
So until we get a good, workable port of Mac OS to x86 processors, I guess I’m doomed to live in Windows mediocrity.
Thats the catch though. How ofted do "we" (tech users) actually upgrade our computers beyond more ram and a bigger HD. Typically we stall and drool for long enough over the new hardware that by the time we are ready, we just build a whole new box.
So on the other side of it is price. Now for those of us who build our own pc’s this doesnt really apply because we can cut corners anywhere we want on any spec that we dont care about. But I have read several articles that show the price layout of macs vs comparable dells and hp boxes, once you add in all the extra hardware and software you get on your mac to your pc the cost is often more for the pc. This article is from a year ago but displays some of what i am talking about. http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/36120.html
In the end it just isnt that big of a deal. We need computers to do what we do. And the computer you use needs to fit into your guidlines and workflow. But having OSx on x86 wont change anything about what you can upgrade and use in your mac. They will still keep that locked down just like they do now. By keeping the hardware limited they are able to keep having a rock solid OS that keeps guys like me happy
