Flickr Users Cry Over new Yahoo ID requirement

I just read abou this over on wired news.
It appears that a faction of Flickr users have decided to protest
against the sites new owner, Yahoo!.  The uprising comes about
because now that yahoo ownes Flickr these users are going to be
required to set up a yahoo id to continue using their beloved service.

Honestly
I have no sympathy in this situation.  I keep going over this in
my head and can’t seem to find a way to agree with them.  Now I
guess I have already been desensitized to this because I once was a
rocketmail user, which got aquired by geocities, and then by
yahoo.  So you have to get a yahoo ID to continue using your
photo’s, SO WHAT!!!!!

I mean realistically all of us that have
flickr accounts signed up for the site as a beta.  As a beta I
think the site had just as much chance of being shut down completly and
the photos used in it lost forever, but we flocked to post our photos
anyway.  These users are threatening to close down their accounts
in protest. As if yahoo is going to care if it doesnt have to host
those files anymore?  Yahoo wants the flickr technology to enhance
is yahoo360 offering, not to gain the support of the flickr die-hards.

Obviously
I am ranting, and if any of these die-hards are in the MM community I
will get flamed for my lack of support.  But really… this has to
go on the top of my stupid things to protest list.

CFUG Summary

Well we had a great event last night.  We had a good turnout
for sean’s presentation and I think everyone there gained something
from it.  We also got to give away our copy of cfmx7.  So big
congrats to Kam Figgy for taking home the big prize.  Also I want
to mention that we have been running this promotion for the last six
month.  Every event you attended got you an entry into the pot,
and for bringing someone new to the meeting you got 5 entries.
Several people took advantage of this but one person really did a great
job.  So I want to mention that Bruce Holm rocks!  He
definatly did his part to support the user group coming in with almost
double the amount of entries as any one else.

Our next get together will be at the next CF_Social.  We will be
meeting at the Lucky Lab brewery in Multnomah village.  This
social actually has an agenda.  I want to get some feedback on
what people would like to see happen in our meetings.  There are
lots of different things other cfugs cover and I want to make sure that
our cfug is making the most of our users time.  We will be having
our next social on September 8th at 6Pm.

Our next meeting will
be on September 15.  Brad Fetter of flir.com will be presenting on
CF Flash Forms and will hopefully be showing us some cool things.
So remember to come on out and hang out before the meeting.  We do
pizza and soda at 5:30.  This meeting will likely be back at our
Lincoln Center location.

Ok thats all for now.  Thanks to everyone that attended.

Sean Corfield - Portland CFUG - TONIGHT!

Ok the time is now!  Sean Corfield will be presenting tonight
at the portland cfug.  He is giving his Frameworks talk, which is
a great talk for beginners and advance cf’ers alike.  He will be
talking about Frameworks like Fusbox, model-glue, mach-ii.  As
well as design patterns like MVC.  Not to mention a little through
in on Tartan the services framework.

This is a presentation that can be seen at most of the major
conferences but its a rare treat when you get to enjoy it this close to
home.  Make sure you come out and bring a friend.  Tonight is
also the night we are giving away a copy of CF 7 professional.
Many of the regular attendees have been working hard at getting entries
in.  Remember you get an entry for coming, but you get 5 entries
for bringing someone new.  And tonight is your last chance!!!!!

The meeting is being held at Schooner Technical Training in beaverton.  Please check the Portland Cold Fusion Users Group website for details on time and directions!

See you there!

Fall Conferences

Well I did it.  Just this morning I signup for the
Fusebox/Frameworks conference for september, and MAX 05 in
October.  I wanted to post to remind folks that tomorrow is the
last day for the Fusebox/Frameworks conference early bird price of
$299.  Thats a steal for the importance of the topics that will be
covered at this conference.

Max 2005 in Annihiem has another week on its first early bird pricing,
but since I had the credit card out I thought why not :)
This is a historic event as I may be the last Macromedia MAX we have
before the Adobe merger.  Obviously Studio 8 will be high on the
propaganda list, but cf and flex will still be covered and I will be
there to soak up anythign I can.

Remember: Dont wait to long or  you will miss the savings on these great events.  See you there!

I want to sync yahoo to my mac

Does anybody have any neat tricks to make this work?  On a pc,
they have an intellisync installer that will allow you to sync your
address book and calendar with any number of programs.  I would
love to do this on my mac but I cant find any utilities to do it.
Anybody have any suggestions?  The calendar is the one I really
want.

Thanks World!

The Amazing No-Button Mouse

Its a constant struggle at my house.  I think macs are great
and my wife thinks they are not.  One of her arguments is always
that its just not practicle to only have one mouse button.  So
excited as i was to show her apples new Mighty Mouse I thought I would finally have won that battle.

But do you know what she told me? "It has NO mouse buttons.  How
is that better"  I had to laugh.  I really thought I was
going to have nailed down one of her arguments against my Macs but
instead I just fueled her fire.  I guess thats what i get for
trying :)
