Blogging from the beach

Its true, Seaside Or had finally reached the the 21st century! I am sitting at Bagels by the sea, in seaside, enjoying a cup of coffee and an asiago bagel.

I dont know if life gets much better. :) Later today I am taking my dogs and my RC cars to the beach were we will all play in the sand.

I grew up here in seaside, and I have to say, sometimes, its nice to come home.

Subversion Quck Reference Card

I dont know about anybody else, but I am a big fan of using Subversion via the CLI. Unfortunatly then I have to actually remember the commands. So I was google-ing something(i thinks I was trying to set properties for svn:ignore) the other day and came across a tiny link to this great SVN quick Reference card. I was not sure who created but luckily on the card it has a mention.
“Compliled by Cezary Sobaniec” and a url to his site http://www.cs.put.poznan.pl/csobaniec/index.html.

Anyway, take a look its a two sided 3-fold quick reference card that is very complete.

Have fun.

Portland CFUG Tonight

I had the pleasure of presenting on cfmx7 tonight at our local cfug. George Ross of Isite here in portland ( our CFUG sponsor ) Covered some of the enterprise features, and I covered and demoed just about all of of the features available in standard.

We didnt have a good turn out. But I had so much fun. I know that I am a technology zealot, but I think on an even bigger scale I may be a Macromedia Evangelist. I get so excited sharing my experiences and talking about the new features available to developers. I think the folks that came got more than they bargained for because we covered most of the features displayed in the feature matrix Tim Blogged about last week.

Looks like next month I will be presenting about blogging. I plan to cover the “what” “why” and “how” as it applies to business and personal uses.

CFMX 7 Install - FLAWLESS!

We got our box and cd’s yesterday for our upgrade to cfmx 7. Although our server is not running a “supported” platform, the install went flawlessly.

I could not be happier with our progess so far. We have put to work flash forms, and the new charting engine in our admin. My employers are very happy with the results so far.

So just to confirm, my install on Fedora Core 1, was flawless, without a hitch.

To Trackback or not to Trackback

I built this blog because I wanted a place to share my thoughts. I built it on sean and ray’s work, and it has treated me very well.

The time has come to start adding to thier work and one of the places I thought to start would be to add the trackback and ping abilities to the code base. I have done the research and think it would only require a little bit of work to add to the application.

However, as I surf the net and read other blogs, i find that many of them have shut off comments and trackbacks because of spam problems. So this leads me to wonder… If I add those features would anyone use them? The same things could be ported to ray’s blog pretty easily if someone wanted to, so you would not have to use my codebase for that to work.

So what do you think internet? Would you like to use trackback?

A Technology Step Backward?

I started my life in coldfusion as a commercial developer. I worked for a development company and clients came to use to have us build them web sites and applications. I quickly found my development style synced well with fusebox and never looked back. But now I am considering a different path which throws away all that I have preached for so long. Its only one site, but I think it shows a shift in how I look at things. Really I think it may be the difference between building sites for a client vs your employer. Read on for my thoughts.
